A tired commercial rear service entrance rebuilt from the rough opening up — old unit stripped out, the opening cleared, and a new hollow metal steel door and frame leveled and secured into the block wall. Here is the full before-and-after story.
The rear service entrance on this Ottawa commercial building had reached the end of its working life. The original door and frame were beyond patching, and the surrounding block wall opening was left rough and littered with debris where the old unit had been worked loose. For a busy back entrance — deliveries in, staff out, locked up tight every night — a door that no longer sits square or seals is a daily problem and a security weak point. The owner wanted it done properly and done in one visit, so we took it on as a full removal and installation from the opening up.
Hollow metal steel doors are the standard for commercial and industrial entrances for good reason: they are durable, secure, and available in fire-rated configurations, and they hold up to a punishing cycle count that would chew through a residential slab in a season. We began by stripping out the failed door and frame entirely, then cleared and prepped the rough opening in the block wall so the new assembly had clean, true bearing surfaces to land on. From there we set the new hollow steel frame, plumbed and leveled it, and anchored it solidly into the masonry. We hung the steel slab, dialed in the reveal so it shut without binding, set the lockset and closer, and fitted a full perimeter seal. Sizing and hanging a unit like this for heavy daily use is exactly what our commercial door repair work is built around, and by the end of the day the entrance opened, closed and locked the way a service door should.
Commercial buildings throughout Ottawa — warehouses in the east end, retail units in Nepean and Kanata, shops and service bays across the Valley — depend on hollow metal entrances that simply work every day. These doors take road salt, freeze-thaw swings and relentless traffic in stride, but when one finally fails it needs more than a handyman patch: it needs the opening prepped right and the new unit hung true. We supply, remove and install hollow steel doors and frames for businesses, property managers and contractors across the region, sized and fitted to stand up to years of hard use.
