A medical clinic in Gatineau needed its entrance fully accessible. We ran the control wiring through the vestibule frame, mounted the operator hardware, and wired a Camden bi-directional sequencer to the interior handicap paddle so the doors open in sync. Here’s the job, start to finish.

This Gatineau clinic needed an entrance that met accessibility requirements from day one — a vestibule-style commercial entrance that had to operate in the correct sequence, triggered by an interior handicap paddle. That’s not a plug-and-play job: it means running low-voltage wiring cleanly through the frame, mounting the operator arms so they clear the header, and programming the control logic so the outer and inner doors don’t fight each other.

The Repair

We started by routing the control cable through a drilled channel in the door frame, keeping the run tight to the jamb so nothing snags when the door cycles. The operator arm and motor assembly were mounted above the header and set to the correct opening force and speed for a commercial entrance. The key piece of the job was the Camden switching network and bi-directional sequencer, wired and labeled specifically for the interior handicap paddle so it fires the correct relay for that door only — get the relay assignment wrong and you end up with both doors trying to open at once, or the wrong door responding to the paddle. Once the wiring was confirmed clean, we tested the full cycle repeatedly: paddle press, sequencing, hold-open time, and full close, until it ran the same way every time. A job like this often overlaps with automatic door repair work, since the same operator hardware needs regular adjustment once it’s in daily commercial use.

Clean, protected wiring is what keeps a commercial operator reliable once it sees daily clinic traffic. Exposed runs at an entrance do not last, and a snagged cable is one of the fastest ways an accessibility system goes offline after opening day.

With the header hardware set, we moved to the control side of the job: labeling relays on the Camden CX-12 and confirming the interior paddle only fires the intended sequence. Commercial clinic traffic also means the force and timing have to be calibrated for daily use, not a residential default — too aggressive and the door slams; too soft and it fails accessibility timing.

Once the wiring was confirmed clean, we tested the full cycle repeatedly before recording a walk-up of the finished entrance in motion so the clinic has a clear record of the operator cycling correctly.
