Single white sectional garage door on a detached brick garage with an asphalt apron
Richmond is a village on Ottawa's west side with a historic centre, farmland around it, and new subdivisions filling in. Its garage doors vary. Older ones sit behind village homes, some have been patched together over the years, and newer ones sit on fresh streets. We repair garage doors in Richmond, and we find out what's actually on the door before we quote a part.
Send a photo, or call 613-265-3667 and tell us what the door does. You get a flat-rate price first.

A garage door that's been through a couple of owners can end up with parts that don't belong together. A spring from another door, a cable cut to the wrong length, rollers of two types, an opener added years after the door was hung. The door still moves, but it's out of balance, and everything else wears to compensate. The opener works too hard, one cable takes more load than the other, and the door drifts.
The fix is to check what is on the door, match parts to it, and reset the balance properly. If you've had a door repaired by several people, tell us. It helps us know what to look for. See garage door repair for what we check.
Older village lots often have detached garages set back from the road, with narrow driveways or lanes. The doors are commonly single doors, sometimes a nonstandard size. Replacement doors have to be measured to the actual opening, so we take dimensions before ordering anything. See garage door installation.
New homes on the edges of the village have attached double garages with builder-grade doors. Their early problems are usually sensors, remotes and small alignment issues as the house settles, and springs follow after several years. For those, see opener repair and spring repair.
Gravel lanes and farm dust find their way into tracks and onto sensor lenses. Grit in the track wears rollers, and a dusty sensor stops the door from closing. Wiping the lenses and clearing the lower track now and then helps. If a roller is scraping, don't just lubricate it and carry on.
Farm buildings and workshops around Richmond have big overhead doors, often in unheated buildings. Cold thickens the grease, and drifting snow packs into the lower track. A door that's frozen to the slab shouldn't be forced. For larger doors, see commercial garage door repair.
Many Richmond residents commute by Richmond Road or Highway 416. A door stuck open on a dark winter morning is a security concern as well as a delay. If yours is stuck, see emergency garage door repair.
If you know what's been done to the door, tell us. Photos help: the whole door from inside, the springs above it, the bottom corners, and any labels on the door or opener. If you know the door was moved from another building, or that parts came from different places, say so. It tells us to check sizes and balance before we order anything, and it keeps the price from changing on the day.
Storms cut power in rural and village areas. The manual release lets you lift a closed door, but only use it with the door fully closed and no broken spring. If the door is up, leave the cord alone.

It can be. Mismatched springs, cables or rollers leave the door out of balance. We check what's on the door and fix the mismatch, not just the symptom.
Usually, yes. We measure the actual opening, headroom and side room, then quote a door that fits.
Yes. Send photos and the width of the door, and tell us how it's used.
One cable is looser than the other, one spring is weaker, or a roller is binding in the track. We find which.
