A lot of Renfrew garages have no heat at all. The door sees the same temperature as the yard. Rural outages after ice storms leave people with a closed door and no opener. The release cord lets you lift the door by hand, but use it only when the door is fully down. If a spring is broken, a door that is released and lifted can drop. If you think a spring has gone, leave the door alone and call.

Many older detached garages carry a door that was fitted decades ago or came from another building. If the springs, cables, rollers and hinges have all reached the end of their lives at once, or the panels are rotting at the bottom, a replacement can cost less than a string of repairs.
