A lot of older garage doors use extension springs, the long springs that run along each side of the door beside the horizontal tracks. They stretch and contract as the door moves, and they should have a safety cable running through them. When one breaks it can snap sideways, and an uneven pair makes the door lift crooked. If the safety cables are missing or rusted, tell us. They're what keeps a broken spring from whipping across the garage.

Many Nepean garages have limited headroom above the door, or limited room at the sides. That affects the track setup and which springs are possible. A door that has run for thirty or forty years has worn rollers, stretched hinges and loose track brackets. A door that scrapes, wobbles or sticks halfway up is showing that. Left alone, it can jump the track. If it already has, see off-track repair and don't force the door.

On older Nepean garages, the bottom seal is often hardened or missing. Slush gets under the door, freezes and pulls at the panel when the opener tries to lift. Replacing a seal is a small job that saves the bigger ones.

Often it can be repaired. If the panels are sound and only springs, rollers or the opener have failed, repair is reasonable. If the panels are rotted or several systems have failed, we'll give you both prices.
