Interior Bedroom Door Jamb Repair in Ottawa

A kicked-in bedroom door jamb in an Ottawa home split the frame and pulled the strike loose, so the door wouldn’t stay shut and the room had no privacy. Here is how we rebuilt the jamb, re-anchored the strike and refinished the casing to match — before and after.

The bedroom door in this Ottawa home had taken a hard kick at the latch. The force split the jamb along the grain and tore the strike plate half out of the wood, so the latch no longer had anything solid to catch. The door drifted open on its own and couldn’t be closed properly — not much of a problem in a hallway, but a real one for a bedroom where privacy is the whole point. The family wanted it back to normal quickly, and the casing repaired well enough that you’d never know it had happened.

The Repair

Interior jambs are usually thin, lightweight stock, so once they split there’s no real strength left to screw a strike back into. We removed the damaged section of the jamb and rebuilt it with solid material, gluing and clamping the frame back into a straight, true line. With the jamb set, we re-anchored the strike plate into firm wood — using longer screws that reach past the surface into the framing so a future bump won’t pull it loose again. Then we filled, sanded and refinished the casing to blend with the rest of the hallway trim, and adjusted the door so it swings clean and the latch seats with a positive click. This kind of door frame repair brings the door back to a square, quiet close that holds.

Problems We Solved

  • A split jamb that left the latch nothing solid to catch against.
  • A strike plate torn loose so the door wouldn’t stay shut.
  • A bedroom with no privacy because the door drifted open on its own.
  • Splintered, damaged casing that looked rough next to the surrounding trim.
  • A door that no longer latched square in its opening.

Benefits of the Repair

  • A rebuilt jamb that holds the strike and latch firmly again.
  • A strike plate re-anchored with long screws for added resistance.
  • Restored privacy with a door that closes and stays shut.
  • Refinished casing that matches the hallway trim seamlessly.
  • A smooth, square latch with a clean, positive close.

Interior Bedroom & Bathroom Jamb Repair in Ottawa & the Ottawa Valley

Interior bedroom and bathroom jambs take a beating — from forced entry and slammed doors to the rough-and-tumble of busy households — and they’re among the most common repairs we handle for homeowners across the region. We rebuild split frames, reset loose strikes and refinish casing for families throughout Ottawa, including Orléans, Barrhaven, Kanata, Gloucester and the surrounding Ottawa Valley communities. Because interior trim varies house to house, we match the existing profile and finish so the repair disappears into the wall. Most interior jamb repairs are a single-visit job, with the door latching square and privacy restored the same day.

FAQ

Interior Bedroom Door Jamb Repair in Ottawa — FAQs

Common questions about this project and the service behind it.

What causes a door jamb to split or break?
+
A forced entry, a slammed door, or years of strain on a misaligned strike. The wood splits around the strike and lock keepers. We rebuild it through door frame repair.
Can a broken jamb be repaired without replacing the frame?
+
Usually, yes. We cut back to sound wood, sister in new framing and reset reinforced keepers, so the jamb holds without a full frame replacement.
Will the repaired jamb be stronger than before?
+
Yes. We anchor the strike into solid framing with long screws, so the repaired area resists force better than the original.
Does the door close and latch normally afterwards?
+
Yes. We realign the strike and keepers so the door latches cleanly, and adjust the hinges if the door had dropped.
